What is an ornamental fence?

Ornamental fences were introduced to the US more than 50 years ago and are often associated with their beauty rather than their function. However, these fences, constructed from metal instead of vinyl or wood, are designed to offer homeowners a chance to secure their home without impeding the view of their landscape and architecture. Customers can add rails, rings, finials, or scrolls while customizing the finish and design of each picket.

What types of ornamental fencing are available?

HoCo Fence offers several types of ornamental fencing.

  • Ornamental Picket Fence – Unlike traditional picket fences made from wood or vinyl picket fences, ornamental picket fences are made from aluminum, iron or steel and come in a variety of shapes and sizes that offset the architecture of a home and design of a landscape. Still known for the quintessential “picket” look, ornamental fences go beyond a straight slat to incorporate every shape and size picket possible.
  • Metal Privacy Fence – Ornamental fences go beyond the simple picket look. Privacy panels in a variety of colors, finishes and designs are available to offer privacy without sacrificing beauty. From corrugated metal to lattice or herringbone patterns, the possibilities are endless. Best of all, HoCo Fence has the ability to manufacture our own panels in-house to offer you a customized finish to match your wildest fencing dreams.

What materials are ornamental fences made from?

  • Aluminum – Aluminum is one of the most popular materials used in ornamental fencing because it is corrosion resistant and relatively inexpensive to produce. It never rusts, even in the harshest of climates, making it ideal for Maryland weather patterns that often include blistering heat and humidity and the harshest of winter months. Best of all, aluminum is 100 percent recyclable with most manufacturers using substantial amounts of recycled scrap to create aluminum fencing.
  • Steel or Iron - Steel is also a common material used in ornamental fences. A metal yard fence made from steel fencing panels offers strength, durability and a lifetime of use with very little maintenance. Made from a heavier gauge material and reinforced by concrete where posts are placed, steel fences can be treated for a different patina than aluminum fences can, giving you more options for the finish to your fence.
